solution
Sennheiser MobileConnect is a flexible, self-contained streaming media solution that can bring audio descriptions to the smart phones of blind and visually impaired people, allowing them to enjoy better entertainment.
"It is the goal of every theater to involve as many people as possible. The audio description brings us one step closer."-Karin Beier, Artistic Director of Deutsche Theater-
Audio specialist Sennheiser worked with the Hamburg Ministry of Culture to provide a new MobileConnect streaming solution for two theaters in the city. This solution enables blind and visually impaired people to participate in cultural activities without barriers. In December last year, audiences at the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg were able to experience a very special premiere: for the first time they were able to use their smartphones to hear the audio description of Henrik’s play "John Gabriel Borkman" by Ibsen. Narrated by German actress Nina Petri.

Deutsches Schauspielhaus is a theater located in the St. Georg district of Hamburg, Germany. With a capacity of 1,192 spectators, it is the largest lecture theatre in Germany.
About 3,000 blind people and about 40,000 visually impaired people live in Hamburg, and their disability means that they can only enjoy cultural activities within a limited range. After the Hamburg Parliament made a decision in 2013, the city has now resolved this issue and hopes to provide visually impaired people with a better theater entertainment experience by providing audio descriptions of what happened on stage
With its MobileConnect system, Sennheiser supported the cultural sector’s program as a sponsor and equipped the Altonaer Theater and Hamburg’s Deutsches Schauspielhaus with new streaming solutions. As a result, audiences in both theaters can now listen to the audio description in real time on their smartphones. All they need to do is install the free MobileConnect app. "MobileConnect makes receiving audio descriptions a trifle. Listeners can simply use their smartphones and no longer rely on renting receivers. For visually impaired people who want to enjoy cultural activities, this makes their lives more convenient," Said Jörn Erkau, managing director of streaming media technology at Sennheiser.
"The Deutsche Theater Hamburg and the Altona Theater in Hamburg are making a significant contribution to helping the blind and visually impaired to participate in cultural life. Thanks to the support of Sennheiser and MobileConnect, a total of five performances with audio descriptions can be provided during the winter." Congressman Professor Barbara Kisseler said. Karin Beier, artistic director of the Deutsche Theater Hamburg, is pleased with this new service: "The goal of each theater is to attract as many people as possible, and the audio description brings us one step closer." The audio commentator of the theater is a German female. Actor Nina Petri.
With its MobileConnect system, Sennheiser is supporting the Hamburg Ministry of Culture’s initiative to allow everyone to experience culture: “Through MobileConnect, we are proud to provide a technical solution that satisfies people’s desire for inclusive cultural enjoyment, so it’s easy, "Elkao said.
In addition to MobileConnect, Sennheiser also introduced a cinema streaming solution. CinemaConnect enables movie theaters to provide audio description, auxiliary listening, and audio content delivery. Since May 2014, the Abaton cinema in Hamburg has been using CinemaConnect.
